Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of using educational chatbots on learning motivation and academic achievement of second-grade elementary school students in mathematics. This study was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population included all second-grade elementary school students in Damghan in the academic year 1402-1403, from which 60 people were selected by convenience sampling and randomly assigned to two experimental groups (30 people) and control groups (30 people). The experimental group was taught in mathematics for 8 weeks using an educational chatbot, while the control group was taught in the traditional method. The research instruments included a researcher-made mathematics learning motivation questionnaire and a mathematics academic achievement test. The data were analyzed using a multivariate analysis of covariance test. The findings showed that the use of educational chatbots had a significant effect on increasing students' learning motivation (P<0.001) and academic achievement (P<0.001) in mathematics. The results of this research indicate the effectiveness of educational chatbots as a new tool in improving the mathematics teaching-learning process.
