The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the presence of irrelevant numbers and the effect of linguistic consistency in solving math verbal problems of the sixth grade. For this purpose, a quasi-experimental method was used. The subjects of this research were 70 sixth grade students of one of the schools in Arak city. The research tool was a researcher-made test consisting of 12 comparative verbal problems. The results obtained from this research showed that the absence of irrelevant numbers and linguistic consistency had a significant impact on students' problem solving performance.
