The relationship between attachment styles and achievement motivation with the performance level of students in mathematics

Abstract

Background and objectives: Considering the importance of the role of mathematics in different dimensions of life, the importance and necessity of scientific investigation and research on the factors affecting the level of academic progress in mathematics among students can be justified, so this research aims to investigate the relationship between attachment styles and motivation to progress. It was done with the level of students' performance in mathematics. Methods: The research method is applied in terms of purpose and based on the collection of descriptive survey data, which was carried out using the structural equation model. The statistical population of this research is all female students of the 10th grade of the second secondary school in Mahabad city who are studying in the academic year of 1401-1400. The sample number was 200 people who were selected by multi-stage cluster sampling method. Data analysis was done using structural equation model in PLS software. Findings: The results indicate that among the attachment styles, secure attachment has a significant and positive relationship with students' performance in math lessons. Conclusion: Therefore, the effect of ambivalent and avoidant attachment variables on math performance was not significant regarding the contribution of each of the two variables. Criterion in predicting math performance variable, it was found that achievement motivation contributed more than attachment styles in predicting math performance.
